This is how you get a perfect curve every time.
What You'll Need
- 3/4" plywood
- One 2x4
- A few nails or screws
- A pencil
- Some string
- A tape measure
- Something to cut the pieces with
- The required safety gear
Get your supplies
All you need to trace your curve is your 3/4" plywood, a 2x4, some string, a nail, and a pencil. Now lets get started.
Trace a curve and cut it out
As seen in the picture below, set up the 2x4 at the start of the curve, tie your string to a nail on one end, and a pencil at the other. You can nail/screw the 2x4 to the plywood if you have troubles keeping it in place. To draw the curve, simply keep the string tight and trace out the arc of the curve.
Trace more curves
Once you have your first curve cut, you don't have to use your string and pencil anymore. It will be more accurate to use your first curve as a stencil to trace all of your other ones. Remember to fit as many curves on each piece of plywood as possible.

how tall is a regular 2x4?
how far along do you screw on the 2x4?
how long is the 2x4 ?
@heyhey I did not specify a length in this tutorial because it is supposed to be general. The length of the 2x4 should be equal to the radius of the curve you want the ramp to have.
You can check out our other ramp instructions to get more details on radius lengths, etc.
Hope that helps.

how long is the string ?
@buisj The string will need to be the same length as the radius of the ramp you want to build.
For example, our 4' quarterpipe has a 7' radius so the string would need to be 7'.
how long should my string be if i am making a 5' tall 7' long kicker
@acie: How did you decide that it should be 7' long? I can't tell you a radius of the ramp unless you tell me how steep you want it. If you told me the steepness at the peak of the ramp in degrees then I could calculate the radius for you :)
The steepness of my ramp is going to be 5 1/2 feet.. so what would my radius be?
@ddecelle Sorry, your ramp is going to be 5 1/2 feet, but how steep do you want to make it?
Ok 8' half pipe with about 6-9" of vert. What should the radius be. Thx for the help Please login(right side) or Register to leave a comment.
